Robin Bead

February17

I thought maybe if I made a Robin bead, it would encourage spring to come!  I was driving up to my parents’ place in Flesherton the other day, and I saw two of these little guys (the real kind) by the side of the road!  I was very surprised indeed!

Valentine’s Bracelet

I posted this earlier, but then worked a little more on it, and added in a few more beads (5 of which are my own lampworked ones)  I think it turned out so well! Now, it’s nice and full – just how a charm bracelet should be :-)

Bead Girl!

I saw this awesome logo on etsy the other day, and asked my husband to change it a little to look more like me!!!  So, here it is!  He also changed it from Bead “Geek” to Bead “Girl” I like that better too ;-) Isn’t she cute?

“Bert” Bead

In my day to day life as the mother of 2 young children, I see an awful lot of kids’ shows!  One of my all time favoriites has got to be Seasme Street. I guess it goes back to my own childhood.  This show was by far one of the hilights of each day!

My children have shwon quite an interest in my bead making, and so I decided to let them in on my hobby, by making them a few beads of their own.  I came up with this Bert the other day.  The uni-brow is right where it should be, making this little guy the one and only Bert we all know and love.  Now, I just need to figure out how to make an Ernie, and we’re all set!

Lampwork Glass Duck Bead

Experimentation seems to be the name of the game while learning to torch.  Well, that and patience and practice!

I’ve made hundreds of beads, and I must say, I am quite pleased with most of them.  I can really see the progress in my work, as I have been “mapping” it out in a Facebook chronology (mostly just so my friends can see my beads)

Sometimes, the colours aren’t quite what I want in some of the beads, there are little mistakes here and there, but I suppose this is all part of the process, and also, what makes them art as opposed to machine-created cookie-cutter clones?

At any rate, I am thoroughly enjoying my hobby – so much so, that I plan to teach lampworking in the spring! Before then, I have a lot of work to do, preparing a studio space worthy of that “title” and I also need to research and compile a booklet on the topic of Lampworking that will be given to prospective students.  I know quite a bit about it all at this point, but I still have a lot to learn…

Until spring, it’s back practice, practice, practice…and when mistakes happen, chalk it up to inexperience and head back to the mandrel!

Nautical Charm Bracelet

February1

I am having a real *charm bracelet thing* these days!  So, voila – here is yet another one! Done in a nautical theme, this bracelet is full of fish, shells, pearls, glass and colours that remind me of the sea! The charms are all individually hand-wrapped with great attention to detail!  I LOVE this…so pretty!

I am hoping to get my store up and running before too long.  In the meantime, if you are interested in any of my jewelry, or would like custom work done, feel free to contact me!  I make and sell tons of earrings, bracelets, necklaces and other bejewled delights, and I love new customers!

Stay tuned for exciting things to come at Cat Can Bead!!!
